Program Notes:
I composed this modal canon after I was inspired by the creative activities and high-level music-making of the participants of the 2005 Walden School Teacher Training Institute. I composed the canon using invertible counterpoint so it could be played on high-pitched or low-pitched instruments and still be harmonically correct and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the sound of the premiere’s instrumental combination of clarinet, horn and bass clarinet.
