I composed this modal canon after I was inspired by the solfège practice, canon singing, and high-level music-making I experienced during my Level I Kodály pedagogy coursework I attended at the Hartt School of Music in summer 2005 in Hartford, CT. The first phrase is in Dorian, and the second two phrases are in mixolydian. This canon could be sung equally well on solfège syllables (as in this recording), “Alleluia,” or a neutral syllable such as “lu.”
