Crash-Bang, for tape (2006)
Duration: 2’
MP3 Player
Premiere:
Louise Shonk Kelly Recital Hall, Dublin School, Dublin, NH
Summer 2006
Program Notes:
Some lucky students at the Walden School’s summer composition program for students aged 9-18 had the opportunity to take portable sound recorders, go out “into the field,” record interesting sounds, and then manipulate them using Pro Tools-powered workstations into pieces of musique concrète. For some reason I never had the opportunity to dabble with this as much as I would have like while there as a student, so when the opportunity to create musique concrète compositions came around again when I returned to Walden for their Teacher Training Institute, I leaped at the opportunity. This little piece is the result of many hours experimenting with audio manipulation programs, which at the time were basically new to me. I hope you find it humorous.
