Program Notes:

I originally composed this short piece as the second movement of a suite, but have since withdrawn the other movements, leaving this one to stand on its own merits.  Rejoicings was originally notated with the metric pattern 6/8, 2/4, 6/8, 3/4, etc., but on the advice of other student composers at the Walden School, I decided to emphasize the quarter-note pulse instead of the changing eighth-note pulse, and re-notated it into 5/4, 6/4, etc.  I am still pleased, after all these years, with the counterpoint in this movement, and with the tricky way the left-hand ostinato is tweaked and modified throughout the piece.
